NOV 2024 Made a reservation for dinner and had the sushi omakase. The restaurant had about ten seats around the L-shape counter managed by two chefs who were both very friendly and entertaining. The course was substantial with a good variety of seafood which were fresh and paired well with the red vinegar sushi rice; enjoyed every piece. There was also a tempura prawn handroll which seemed out of place, but it was prepared by the sister tempura restaurant from the first floor; also very good. Before the end of the meal you can order additional sushi; I had the sea urchin which was not part of the course. Price was good for the quantity and quality of the sushi.

I don’t usually write bad reviews unless I feel it’s absolutely necessary. I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews—either it was under different ownership before, or someone paid for fake reviews. First, the place is difficult to find, especially in the dark at night. If the food had been amazing, it could have been a cool, "hidden gem" speakeasy-style sushi restaurant. However, the food was absolutely terrible. I don’t understand why people claim it’s great—have they even tasted real sushi before? One of the sushi rolls was just cucumber, rice, seaweed, and some fancy black pepper. Seriously? The hygiene of this place was also concerning. The sushi chef was coughing while preparing the sushi! He wasn’t wearing a mask and didn’t even cover his mouth while coughing. I didn’t feel welcome when I entered or left the restaurant, possibly because the chef was sick and had no energy—unlike what other reviews described. If he was unwell, the restaurant should not have been open that day. To make matters worse, several of us got sick a few days after eating there. While this wasn’t an expensive omakase experience, I firmly believe you could get far better sushi at a conveyor-belt sushi spot. This place isn’t worth your money or the health risk. I do not recommend it, and I will not be returning.

The best omakase restaurant I've tried! Food is top notch and Chef Souichi Komoriya is fabulous. He speaks excellent English (and a bit of Cantonese!) and is interactive with us the entire group. Price is absolutely reasonable for the food and service quality. Make sure to arrive on time and use the small door on the right to head upstairs. Inside the quite warm so don't wear too much or you'll be sweating. I highly recommend the sake paring to enjoy various types of sake throughout the meal. Reservation is a must so book well in advance! Go for the later seating if you wanna have a drink with the chefs!

Randomly found this omakase and the taste surprised me a lot. The ingredients are so fresh and chef Souichi is so kind and friendly. He can speak English and little Cantonese , so we can communicate easily. They also do wine pairing if u want, which enhanced the whole dining experience And that is a very secret place and we love how mysterious they are.

Amazing experience! In researching a moderately priced Omakase for my trip to Japan, I came across Sushi Onikai. Reservations online were super easy and flexible through Tablecheck in English. The store itself is somewhat hidden and located in a cute neighborhood. Hosted upstairs in what looks to be an old house, it’s an L shaped bar with limited seating only for reservations. For the omakase itself, we had about 3 small appetizers and around 15 courses. You can also have the option of adding sake (a la carte, or unlimited pairings) at the start and/or additional uni at the end of the service. Had I not been so full, I would have chosen to have some additional pieces. I appreciated some of the untraditional sushi choices, particularly enjoyed the monkfish liver - definitely something I hadn’t eaten before! The chefs were very funny and spoke great English. They were very interactive and also eager to recommend good sake pairings for me.
